A little boho, a little oceany, and a whole lot of luxurious
In collaboration with Kalina Chankova
This apartment is located in a historic district in the heart of Sofia. With this project we took an entirely different approach. We did not change the functions of the rooms in any way as the existing layout already made logical sense.

living
These were all of the architectural changes that were needed, which allowed us to shift our entire focus to the artistic aspect of the renovations.

living
We completely changed out the plumbing and electrical, doors and windows, and successfully fit all of the necessities into the small kitchen and bathroom.

The real showpiece in the living room is a lamp fashioned from a branch that was painted in coral red, making it a true eyecatcher, especially in contrast to the deep blue of the wall.

Another clever artistic feature is the “window” effect that is created by the painting by Vasil Ovcharov on the blue wall with the blue couch.

the bar
The living room now has a spacious corner bar. Its look is complemented by the exquisite minimalism of an art piece that features magnetic origami figures that can be moved around.

Together we mapped out where the furniture would go and decided which pieces – such as the custom-made French bed – would be made at a factory.
All of the remaining pieces were born out of the artistic vision of Kalina and were handcrafted by her.

The lamps were made by Cablelovers and the special thing about them is that all of the wooden pieces were handpicked.
There are three nightstand lamps with bases made of real olive wood and one standing lamp that Cablelovers made from driftwood that was found on the Bulgarian Black Sea coast.

Kalina created pieces of art to go in every room. She also selected the color scheme of the bedroom and transformed and personalized the regular furniture to match that vision.

Another fascinating element is added by the interplay between the whimsically-shaped mirrors and a watercolor piece with a stunning velatura effect that is painted directly on the wall.

We painted the large wardrobe in the same soft color as the walls so as to make it blend in and remain unnoticeable at first glance.

The end result is a spacious apartment with few pieces of furniture, but with lots of comfort and plenty of character.
